Description
Sadly the Houston Toad (Bufo Houstonensis) is rarely seen in Houston anymore. This endangered species resides predominantly in Bastrop State Park and Bastrop County. It’s numbers have dwindled to approximately 3,000-4,000 worldwide. The Houston Zoo is working to breed the toads in captivity and boost the population. Thus far, they have released over 4.5 million eggs into the wild. The toads featured here are doing their part to keep numbers up!
