Holdouts by Sarah Welch is the first in an ongoing series of near-future stories about life on the US Gulf Coast in the wake of catastrophic climate change. In this future, the government has withdrawn support from coastal regions due to the cost of repeatedly rebuilding cities and infrastructure. Residents are forced to migrate elsewhere or navigate life on their own in harsh, unstable locales. Each chapters of Holdouts follows a different protagonist(s), chronicling daily life for those who are unable or unwilling to leave their homes.
